China's medical system reform will increase the demand of medicines and health supplements. China also faces the problem of increased elderly population susceptible to disease which also enlarge the demand both medicines and health supplements.
Speaking at the Second China Nutrition Industry Forum in Beijing in 2005, Zeng Hongying from the Public Nutrition and Development Center (PNDC) said, "Now China's nutrition industry is promising and it will grow at a rate of 12 per cent to 15 per cent. By 2010, the gross products of China's nutrition industry will total 278 billion yuan (US$34.3 bn).
